5 symptoms to expect in third trimester

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Welcome to #3 trimester! But you may feel breathless and find it hard to sleep.

This week, you’re embarking on #7 month i.e. your third trimester. Can you believe you’ve made it this far?! At 28 weeks, your baby is now the size of an eggplant!

At 28 weeks gestation, your baby now weighs 1-1.2 kg and is 35 cm long. Your baby’s lungs are starting to mature. The eyes are also formed and your baby can blink. Your baby has frequent hiccups which are little, continuous jerky movements in the bump.

5 symptoms that you may expect in third trimester

#1 Insomnia

As you get closer to your pop date, you have more trouble getting Zzzs (which sucks, because you’re beat!). This is preparing you for breastfeeding.

#2 Shortness of breath

Baby continues to crowd your lungs and diaphragm, making it tough to catch your breath. Give yourself permission not to push too hard and take breaks.

#3 Aches and pains.

You feel very uncomfortable as the toll of pregnancy is taking on your body. Try yoga, stretch, swim, walk, or simply get a prenatal massage. Try wearing maternity support belt if you’re on your feet a lot. Not sassy, I know, but it relieves some aches and pains!

#4 Braxton Hicks contractions.

These rehearsal womb contractions gets more noticeable and frequent as your body pumps up for labour. Ensure that the contractions are only occasional. If they’re regular and getting too close for comfort, and you could be in preterm labour and should call your OB doctor!

#5 Leaky boobs. Your breasts may start milking colostrum. Don't be too alarmed if there is some discharge on your bra.
