Is it safe to eat sashimi in pregnancy?

Pregnancy comes with both joys and fears. You will do everything to protect your unborn. You may need to sacrifice your food cravings for the safety of your baby.


Animal proteins, eggs and seafood are important nutrients in pregnancy. It enhances growth of your baby. But remember to avoid undercooked or raw meat.

Raw and undercooked meat, poultry, seafood (e.g. oyster, cockles, sashimi and sushi), half-boiled eggs may contain food-borne bacteria and viruses. Weakened immune system may increase your risk of severe bacterial food poisoning. Miscarriage, malformation or even stillbirth may be a consequence. So, beware.
